The Technical University of Munich (TUM) resolved to establish the TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) in 2005 as an international and interdisciplinary research institute. The institute is a central corner stone of the TUM’s institutional strategy and creates room for developing interdisciplinary research fields and development of top-level research free of administrative loads. With the TUM-IAS, the TUM aims to further promote competition and make a vital contribution to the advancement of science by stimulating the creativity of idea-rich minds.
With its Fellowship program, the TUM-IAS brings scientists together on three levels: early-career and experienced researchers, scientists from international research institutions and from TUM, as well as academic and industrial researchers. The Fellows jointly define, develop, and establish promising new research fields.

- In Garching’s Research Center (Forschungszentrum) the options could be the Courtyard by Marriot and the Stellaris Apartment Hotel in the Galileo Center,
300 mts away from the Conference Venue. - There are also hotels and guest houses to choose from in the town of Garching, 1 stop away by underground train U-Bahn ( blue line U6 towards Garching Forschunszentrum)
- In Garching Hochbrück, 2 stops away by U-Bahn U6, we can also recommend the Dorint Hotel.
- In Munich, it can also be an option to book any hotel that is close to the U6 line
From Munich International Airport to Garching
The distance from Munich’s International Airport to Garching’s Research Center is approx. 15 km (15 min by taxi, 40 to 50 min by public transport)
